A VITICULTURE THAT CARES FOR THE ENVIRONMENT

Sustainability and environmental protection have always been two cornerstones of the Marco Felluga & Russiz Superiore wineries. Ilaria Felluga, sixth generation of winemakers of her family, is commited to spread good agricultural practices which are both sustainable and respectful of the territory.

Tightly embraced by the Julian Prealps and the Adriatic sea, Collio is one of the most prestigious Italian winemaking regions.

The Collio winegrowing area covers 7000 hectares located in the Gorizia province, of which 1500 are vineyards, and is the Italian northermost DOC featuring a Mediterranean climate.

THE VIVA PROJECT

Russiz Superiore is part of the VIVA Project: a program, designed by the Italian Ministry of the Environment, aimed at improving the sustainability performance of the Italian wine industry by safeguarding the environment and its natural resources while leaving the quality of the products unchanged.

Given the importance of the subject, the scope of the program, and the brilliant results obtained by the Russiz Superiore Estate, the Marco Felluga winery has started the process to be included in the VIVA Project too.

THE SQNPI CERTIFICATION

In 2021 the Collio Consortium obtained the SQNPI (National Integrated Production Quality System) certification for a group of 13 member companies, including Marco Felluga & Russiz Superiore. The system certifies the productions obtained in compliance with the integrated production standard, guaranteeing compliance with ecological, economic and toxicological principles, and enhancing the quality standard of the final product.

Integrated production is an agricultural production system aimed at minimizing the use of chemicals, water and energy.

ENERGY FROM RENEWABLE SOURCES

Since many years, both the Marco Felluga and the Russiz Superiore wineries use energy produced by renewable sources.

The photovoltaic system installed at Russiz Superiore in February 2021 has made the winery energy self-sufficient.

OZONE

In addition to engaging in the development of our business in full respect of the environment around us, we also make use of a precious ally: ozone.

O3 is a natural gas with a strong bactericidal and virucidal power, also used in the pharmaceutical field. We were among the first to use it in Italy in the oenological field. It has a very special quality: it has a very short life period, and because of that it doesn’t leave any residue, neither on the plant nor in the atmosphere. The pathologies that can afflict the vines are thus controlled by applying water enriched with this gas in the open field.

THE BIGOT INDEX

The Bigot Index is a scientific evaluation method that measures the vineyard’s qualitative potential. It takes into consideration nine viticultural parameters that have a direct influence on the quality of the wine.

The final score is expressed in hundredths; subjected to evaluation, the Vineyard Sauvignon Lungo Strada Russiz Superiore received 92/100 points.

In 2022, the vineyards Tocai Friulano Centralina and Cabernet Franc Pietra of Russiz Superiorehave been awarded with 90/100 points, thus classifying among the 38 best vineyards of Italy.

SAY YES TO NATURAL FERTILIZER AND NO TO HERBICIDES

Every choice we make aims at keeping the natural balance intact, and has as its goal the achievement of a circular economy: a key element in the environmental and social safeguard.

LESS GLASS, LESS WASTE

Here at Marco Felluga and Russiz Superiore, we have reduced the weight of the glass of our bottles. This way, we can minimize our environmental impact by producing less waste materials.
